A delicious Czech snack featuring crispy fried Edam cheese, served with tartar sauce and a side of fried potatoes or a fresh salad.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz Edam cheese
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup tartar sauce
  • 2 medium potatoes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon parsley

    Peel the potatoes and cut them into fries. Rinse under cold water and pat dry with a paper towel.

    In a large skillet, heat 1 cup of vegetable oil over medium heat until hot (about 350°F).

    Add the potato fries to the hot oil and fry for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels. Season with salt and pepper.

    While the fries are cooking, prepare the Edam cheese. Cut the cheese into thick slices (about 1/2 inch each).

    Set up a breading station: Place the flour in one shallow dish, beat the eggs in another dish, and place the breadcrumbs in a third dish.

    Dredge each slice of cheese in flour, shaking off the excess. Dip into the beaten eggs, then coat with breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.

    Once all cheese slices are breaded, carefully place them in the hot oil (you may need to do this in batches). Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
