Instructions
- 1
Prepare the ginger by peeling it and slicing it into thin rounds.
- 2
In a medium saucepan, combine the sake, mirin, water, miso, sugar, and ginger. Stir well to dissolve the miso and sugar.
- 3
Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Allow it to simmer for about 5 minutes.
- 4
Add the mackerel fillets to the saucepan, skin side up. Make sure they are submerged in the sauce.
- 5
Cover the saucepan and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the mackerel is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
- 6
While the fish is cooking, chop the green onions into thin slices for garnish.
- 7
Once the mackerel is cooked, carefully remove the fillets from the sauce and place them on a serving platter.
- 8
Increase the heat to medium-high and let the sauce boil for an additional 5 minutes to thicken slightly.
- 9
Pour the thickened sauce over the mackerel fillets.
- 10
Garnish with chopped green onions and sprinkle sesame seeds on top before serving.
- 11
Serve hot with steamed rice and enjoy your Saba No Miso Ni!
