Obatzda mit Brezen - Bavarian Cheese Spread with Pretzel
A creamy cheese spread flavored with spices, served with fresh pretzels for a traditional treat.
Ingredients
- 8 oz Camembert cheese
- 4 oz unsalted butter
- 1 medium onion
- 2 tbsp sweet paprika
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp caraway seeds
- 4 pieces fresh pretzels
- 2 tbsp chives
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley

Remove the Camembert cheese and butter from the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to soften.

Finely chop the onion and set aside.

In a mixing bowl, combine the softened Camembert cheese and butter. Use a fork to mash and combine until smooth.

Add the chopped onion, sweet paprika, salt, black pepper, and caraway seeds to the cheese mixture. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.

Finely chop the chives and parsley, then fold them into the cheese spread. Adjust seasoning to taste.

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.

While the spread is chilling, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) if you are serving warm pretzels.

Place the fresh pretzels on a baking sheet and warm them in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes.
