Crispy fried tofu served with a spicy and tangy sauce, perfect for tofu lovers.

Ingredients

  • 14 oz firm tofu
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp chili paste
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp ginger
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 stalks green onions
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds

    Remove the tofu from its packaging and drain it. Wrap the tofu in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top to press out excess moisture for about 15 minutes.

    While the tofu is pressing, prepare the spicy sauce. In a small bowl, mix together the chili paste, soy sauce, minced ginger, minced garlic, and sesame oil. Set aside.

    After pressing, cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes. Place the cornstarch in a shallow dish and coat each tofu cube evenly with cornstarch.

    Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat until shimmering, about 5 minutes.

    Carefully add the tofu cubes to the hot oil in a single layer, working in batches if necessary. Fry the tofu for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried tofu to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

    Once all the tofu is fried, discard excess oil from the skillet, leaving about 1 tablespoon. Return the fried tofu to the skillet over medium heat.

    Pour the prepared spicy sauce over the tofu and gently toss to coat. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce is heated through and the tofu is well coated.

    Finely chop the green onions and sprinkle them over the tofu. Add sesame seeds for garnish.
