
Chivda - Spiced Flattened Rice Snack
A crunchy and spicy snack made with flattened rice, peanuts, and spices, perfect for breakfast.
Ingredients
- 4 cups flattened rice
- 1 cup peanuts
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 10 leaves curry leaves
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 whole green chili
- 1 pinch asafoetida
- 1 teaspoon sugar

Instructions

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a large frying pan over medium heat.

Add 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds and let them splutter for about 30 seconds.

Add 10 curry leaves and 1 whole green chili (slit lengthwise) to the pan. Sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.

Stir in 1 teaspoon of turmeric and a pinch of asafoetida, cooking for an additional 30 seconds.

Add 1 cup of peanuts to the pan, stirring continuously for about 3-4 minutes until they are golden brown.

Reduce the heat to low and add 4 cups of flattened rice, mixing thoroughly to coat with the spice mixture.

Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of sugar over the mixture, stirring well to combine.

Cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure even heating.

Remove from heat and let the chivda cool completely before serving.
