
Chinese Hot Pot (火锅)
A communal dish where diners cook their choice of meats and vegetables in a simmering pot of broth, perfect for a cozy dinner with family and friends.
Ingredients
- 1 pound beef slices
- 1 pound pork slices
- 1 block tofu
- 8 ounces shiitake mushrooms
- 6 cups broth
- 1 bunch bok choy
- 2 medium carrots
- 4 stalks green onions
- 8 ounces Chinese noodles
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 1 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons chili paste
- 2 cups water

Prepare the broth: In a large pot, combine 6 cups of broth and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

Add flavor: Stir in 2 tablespoons of sesame oil and 2 tablespoons of chili paste into the boiling broth. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 10 minutes.

Prepare the ingredients: While the broth simmers, slice the beef and pork into thin strips. Cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes, and slice the shiitake mushrooms. Chop the bok choy, carrots, and green onions.

Cook the noodles: In a separate pot, cook 8 ounces of Chinese noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

Set the table: Arrange all prepared ingredients (beef, pork, tofu, mushrooms, bok choy, carrots, green onions, and cooked noodles) on a large serving platter.

Serve: Place the simmering broth in the center of the table on a portable burner or hot plate. Allow diners to cook their selected ingredients in the broth for 2-5 minutes, depending on the ingredient.
