
Beef with Broccoli (西兰花牛肉)
Tender beef stir-fried with fresh broccoli in a savory oyster sauce, a staple of Chinese-American cuisine.
Ingredients
- 1 pound beef flank steak
- 2 cups broccoli
- 1 cup oyster sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon ginger
- 3 cloves garlic
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 2 stalks green onions

Slice the beef flank steak against the grain into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick.

In a bowl, combine the sliced beef with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Mix well and let marinate for 15 minutes.

While the beef is marinating, wash and cut the broccoli into bite-sized florets. Set aside.

Mince the garlic cloves and ginger.

Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.

Add the marinated beef to the skillet in a single layer. Stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until the beef is browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.

In the same skillet, add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the minced garlic and ginger, stir-frying for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

Add the broccoli to the skillet and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until the broccoli is bright green and tender-crisp.

Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the broccoli. Add the oyster sauce, remaining soy sauce, and 1 cup of water. Stir to combine.

Bring the mixture to a simmer and let cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
