Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 2

Peel and core the apples, then slice them thinly. Place in a large bowl.

  3. 3

Add the raisins, cinnamon, sugar, and lemon juice to the apples. Toss to combine.

  4. 4

Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the bread crumbs and toast until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.

  5. 5

Roll out the pastry dough on a floured surface into a large rectangle, approximately 16x12 inches.

  6. 6

Brush the rolled-out dough with the remaining melted butter. Sprinkle the toasted bread crumbs evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border.

  7. 7

Spread the apple mixture evenly over the bread crumbs.

  8. 8

Carefully roll the dough from one long side to the other, creating a log. Pinch the ends to seal.

  9. 9

Place the strudel seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

  10. 10

Beat the egg and brush it over the top of the strudel for a golden finish.

  11. 11

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown.

  12. 12

Let the strudel cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm, optionally dusted with powdered sugar.
