
Aloo Tikki - Spiced Potato Patties
Crispy fried patties made from spiced mashed potatoes, served with chutney.
Ingredients
- 4 medium potatoes
- 1 cup green peas
- 1 cup fresh coriander leaves
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 2 pieces green chilies
- 1 cup bread crumbs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 2 cups oil
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 medium onion
- 1 teaspoon ginger

Boil the potatoes in a large pot of salted water for about 20 minutes or until fork-tender. Drain and allow to cool.

Peel the cooled potatoes and mash them in a large bowl until smooth.

In a small pan, heat 1 tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for 30 seconds.

Add finely chopped onion, ginger, and green chilies to the pan. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until the onions are translucent.

Add the sautéed mixture to the mashed potatoes along with green peas, coriander, turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well.

Add lemon juice and mix until all ingredients are well combined.

Divide the potato mixture into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into a round patty.

Coat each patty in bread crumbs, pressing gently to adhere.

In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the patties, cooking in batches if necessary.

Fry each patty for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.

Remove the patties from the skillet and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.

Serve hot with your choice of chutney or yogurt.
